Net Zero North is comprised of a team of experts with decades of experience in restoring and enhancing natural landscapes. We specialise in the design and delivery of restoration and access projects across nationally and internationally significant ecological sites.
We routinely carry out peatland restoration works on designated sites including Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), Special Protection Areas, and Special Areas of Conservation. Our approach ensures minimal disturbance to sensitive habitats and designated features, applying best practice methods which have been refined through our work on some of the UK’s most technically challenging and ecologically sensitive landscapes.
Net Zero North is increasingly recognised as the partner of choice for developers seeking to implement nature-based carbon capture projects that deliver measurable ecosystem services.
Our reputation is built on a commitment to safety, operational excellence, and environmental stewardship. We uphold the highest standards through the following accreditations and memberships:
Net Zero North has delivered award-winning habitat creation and enhancement projects aligned with Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) for onshore wind and solar PV developments. With this experience, we are well placed to support the design and delivery of BNG for renewable energy projects, so please get in touch for further advice and information.
Stuart Evans, Company Director and Co-founder of Net Zero North, is one of the UK’s most experienced peatland restoration practitioners. His career spans over three decades and includes work on many of the UK’s most ecologically sensitive and complex sites.
Prior to the inception of Net Zero North, Stuart led restoration projects for organisations including Moors for the Future Partnership, Natural England, Pennine PeatLIFE, Scottish Forestry, United Utilities, Yorkshire Peat Partnership, Yorkshire Water, and Yorkshire Wildlife Trust. He has designed and delivered numerous successful schemes restoring degraded peatlands, woodlands, and wetlands.
One of Stuart’s most notable achievements was designing and implementing a habitat and peat moorland restoration strategy that enabled a 12-turbine wind farm to be incorporated into the West Pennine Moors SSSI, on land owned by the Honour of Clitheroe (Ralph Christopher Assheton). This strategy was recognised with the North West Regional Construction Sustainability Award.
